Covering the course in 6 days, 14 hours, 29 minutes and 21 seconds, Spindrift 2 has set a new record* for the 3,885-mile theoretical route at an average 24.5 knots to break the mark set by Frank Cammas on Groupama 3, by 20 hours, 29 minutes and 32 seconds. Spindrift 2 left Cadiz (Spain) last Wedneday, October 30 at 15:19:34 GMT (16:19:34 Local time).The total actual distance sailed by Spindrift 2 was 4,503 miles at an average 28.4 knots

Congratulations to Volvo Ocean 65 teams Azzam-Abu Dhabi and SCA for setting a new WSSR monohull record and new WSSR all-female record respectively. The Volvo Ocean 65’ one design class consisting of seven boats including teams Abu Dhabi and SCA is preparing for the start of the 2014-2015 Volvo Ocean Race scheduled for October 4th. The Navtec supplied full hydraulic sail control system includes our race line of control valves, pumps and high pressure M-cylinders for maximum performance at minimum weight while still offering the same reliability that customers have come to expect from Navtec engineered products. The strong showing of these 65 footers in the Round Britain and Ireland Race provides a glimps of the speed and excitement that can be expected over the next 9 months of racing as they circumnavigate the world.
Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Race Records
Navtec supplies hydraulics to three world sailing speed record (WSSR) setting boats during the 2014 Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Race.
Congratulations to Musandam – Oman Sail MOD 70’ on setting a new WSSR outright record. Navtec hydraulics package includes on the MOD 70’s includes System 8 control valves specially developed with the MOD program for their high flow applications to reduce pressure drop and improve system response time. The system also includes high speed 2.1meter stroke capshroud cylinders designed to cant the mast in a matter of seconds for maximum speed and agility whether it is rounding a mark during an inshore race or to minimize speed lost during record setting offshore racing. Navtec is looking forward to seeing how the MOD 70’ class stacks up to the rest of the multihull fleet in the 2016 Krys Ocean Race.
